MOSCOW, June 5 (RAPSI) – The State Duma adopted in the third and final reading on Tuesday a bill that envisages fines for search engines providing users with access to illegal content.

The bill stipulates creation of the federal state information system containing a list of web resources and data telecommunications networks banned in Russia. Moreover, the draft law would oblige search engines to connect to this system and stop release of information on the prohibited websites and networks at users’ request.

Failure to comply with these requirements would be punishable by fines ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 rubles ($50 - 80) for individuals, from 30,000 to 50,000 rubles ($500 - 800) for officials and from 500,000 to 700,000 ($8,000 – 11,200) for companies.

The bill is aimed to amend the law prohibiting the use of technologies enabling access to blocked websites, also known as anonymizers, which took effect on November 1, 2017.
