MOSCOW, August 24 - RAPSI. Russias Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Pavel Astakhov believes that Jessica Beagley behaved outrageously, but that, in general, the family tried to maintain a comfortable life for the adopted twin brothers, and provide for their education. Therefore, perhaps the adoptive parents should be given another chance, the Commissioners press service suggested.

The jury convicted Jessica Beagley of abusing her adopted 7 year-old son from Russia, Daniil Bukharov. Beagley is facing a maximum punishment of a $10,000 fine or up to one year in prison.

American law enforcement officials launched their prosecution of Beagley after a television channel aired a video in November of the adoptive mother yelling at her adopted son, and forcing him to eat hot sauce and take a cold shower as disciplinary measures for lying.

Astakhov added that since a forthcoming US-Russia adoption treaty has not yet entered into force, Russia has not been able to access information regarding the number of adopted Russian children abused in American adoptive families.
