NEW DELHI, January 18 - RAPSI. An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan on Thursday handed down 48 death sentences to the extremist found guilty of organizing a terrorist attack in Faisalabad in 2011 which claimed 48 lives, the Indian media report.

According to Geo News, Aqeel, aka Doctor Usman, has also been sentenced to 110 years in prison and a fine of 100 million Pakistani rupees (circa $1 million).

A group of extremists blew up a car bomb in the country's third largest city, Faisalabad, on March 8, 2011, killing 48 people and wounding over 100.

The explosion was staged at a gas fuelling station next to a law-enforcement agency. According to the Pakistani newspaper Nation, Abdul Rehman, another defendant in the case, has been released for lack of evidence.
