BELGRADE, April 9 - RAPSI. A 62-year-old resident of Velika Ivanca, a village 60 kilometers south of Belgrade, is suspected of shooting 13 people, including six women and a child, on Tuesday morning, Serbian radio and television broadcaster B92 reports.

After going from house to house killing his neighbors, the suspect identified as Ljubisa Bogdanovic attempted to murder his wife and commit suicide. Both survived and are in a critical condition.

Serbian police chief Milorad Veljovic, who was at the scene this morning, told reporters that 12 victims died on the spot and one died on the way to hospital. According to Veljovic, the investigation is still in progress and the motive for the massacre is as yet unknown.

Neighbors described Ljubisa Bogdanovic as a nonviolent man who "never created any problems." It is reported that the man most likely had a handgun permit and had never had any problems with the law before. The police are investigating the reasons behind the tragedy.

A similar shooting spree occurred in Serbia in 2007, when a man killed nine people in a village in the east of the country.
