MOSCOW, April 26 (RAPSI) - President Vladimir Putin hopes that the Tsarnaev's case will help strengthen anti-terrorism ties between Russia and the United States.

Brothers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, are suspected of detonating two bombs made from pressure cookers at the Boston Marathon on April 15 that killed three people and injured over 200. Tamerlan was fatally wounded in a shootout with police early on Friday and died in hospital. Dzhokhar was arrested later that day. He has been charged with using a weapon of mass destruction and with malicious destruction of property resulting in death.

"I hope that this tragedy will serve to heighten our cooperation. This would be in the interests of both America and Russia," Putin told journalists on Thursday after his annual Q&A session.

The president also pointed out that the Tsarnaev brothers did not live in Russia. They first came to Russia from Kyrgyzstan, and then only stayed in the country on infrequent visits. "We deeply regret that the Russian secret services could not provide any useful information to our US colleagues," he added.

Putin made a point of saying, however, that the US and Russian secret services regularly exchange information.
