MOSCOW, May 15 (RAPSI) - US Ambassador Michael McFaul has left the Russian Foreign Ministry headquarters after a meeting on the recent arrest of a US diplomat suspected of espionage.

McFaul left the ministry without giving any comment to the journalists waiting for him outside. The meeting lasted a little more than an hour.

On Tuesday, the Foreign Minister declared third secretary of the US Embassy's Political Section Ryan Christopher Fogle persona non grata and demanded that he leave Russia as soon as possible. Fogle is believed to have offered $1 million a year to a Russian special service officer for supplying helpful information, as is evidenced by a letter divulged by the Federal Security Service (FSB).

When asked to confirm or deny Fogle's arrest during a Q&A session on Twitter, McFaul wrote only one word: "No." No other comments have been made by the US Embassy at this stage.
