MOSCOW, September 17 (RAPSI) - The Federal Security Service (FSB) has withdrawn extremist literature from the mosques in Russia's Bashkortostan, the spokesperson of the regional department of the Federal Security Service told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

The searches were made in two mosques, about 20 extremist books and booklets were withdrawn, the source said.

According to the FSB, the books were used for sale and lectures for the church people.

In July, Russia's Prosecutor General's Office reported that the number of extremism cases is on the rise. The first half of 2013 saw a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2012.
