MOSCOW, October 31 (RAPSI) – Semyon Varlamov, the Russian goalkeeper for the US National Hockey League (NHL) team the Colorado Avelanche, was arrested Wednesday night on various domestic violence charges including kidnapping, local news outlet The Denver Post reported.

Varlamov reportedly turned himself over to police custody, and is being held on charges of kidnapping in the second degree and assault in the third degree. The kidnapping charges may carry a prison sentence ranging between two to six years.Varlamov  will remain in a Denver prison until the court hearing, as the charges against him exclude the possibility of bail.

The Colorado Avalanche issued a statement Wednesday night asserting its awareness, as well as its present intent to refrain from commenting: "The Colorado Avalanche organization is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov. At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation."

Varlamov’s team profile describes the 25-year-old goalkeeper as a 6’2, 209 lb. native of Samara, Russia, who has played an active role in a community service program aimed at teaching kids how to skate for free. The profile asserts that he has represented Russia in eight major international events, including the 2010 Olympics.
