MOSCOW, February 27 (RAPSI) - Russian national Vladimir Romanov was arrested Wednesday in Massachusetts on child-pornography possession charges, according to a statement released by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Romanov had previously drawn the attention of law enforcement authorities when he was arrested in 2013 after parking outside the residence of a federally protected US official.

According to the statement, in July 2013 Romanov “parked a vehicle in a no parking zone on Beacon Hill and begin taking photographs in the vicinity of the U.S. official’s home, officials said.  Romanov allegedly refused to identify himself when confronted by federal agents and was subsequently arrested by Boston Police officers on a charge of drinking alcohol in public.”

According to the Boston Herald, the official at issue was Secretary of State John Kerry. According to the District Attorney’s statement, officers searching Romanov’s car at the time found alcohol and a pellet gun loaded with a carbon dioxide cartridge.

Romanov was indicted earlier this month on six counts of possession of child pornography.

Agents with the US State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security later obtained a federal search warrant, providing them with access to two computers found in Romanov’s residence. According to the statement, the search turned up sexually explicit images of children.

The Herald reported that Romanov pleaded not guilty to the six counts Wednesday, and that Suffolk County District Attorney Luke Goldworm warned that if released pending trial, he would be a flight risk and the US does not have an extradition treaty with Russia.

Romanov was reportedly ordered held with $25,000 bail. If he makes bail, he will be required to surrender his Russian passport and wear a tracking device, according to the report.
