NOVOSIBIRSK, May 16 (RAPSI) - A decision to reschedule or cancel the June 29 Marilyn Manson concert in Novosibirsk will be made within a week, Anna Tereshkova told the media Monday. Tereshkova is the head of the Novosibirsk Mayor’s Office Department of Culture, Sport and Youth Policy.
Last Wednesday, about 400 people protested the upcoming Marilyn Manson concert in Novosibirsk. The protest organizers claimed that Manson’s song lyrics are “a mixture of obscenity, drug promotion, sexual pervasion and an insult to Christian values.”
Tereshkova said “law enforcement agencies were looking into the content of the song lyrics that were provided.”
“I believe we must act according to the law. No one can address the mayor with a request based simply on personal taste. We can only act on resolutions with regard to violations of the law,” she said.
Marilyn Manson (Brian Hugh Warner) is an American rock musician, artist and former music observer, founder and front man of the Marilyn Manson band.
His stage name is a combination of two high profile figures from the 1960s, actress Marilyn Monroe and serial killer Charles Manson. The band’s concerts are famous for visual effects and controversial and often ambiguous performances, including “crucified” or caged women, goat’s heads and fire shows.
