MOSCOW, August 25 (RAPSI) - Moscow’s Basmanny District Court has seized assets owned by Lieutenant General Denis Sugrobov, who headed the Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Department at the Interior Ministry, and his deputy Boris Kolesnikov, RAPSI learnt in the court on Monday.
There were 11 items of real property owned by Sugrobov on the list including apartments and parking lots, according to Anna Fadeyeva, press secretary of the court. She refrained from commenting on Kolesnikov’s property.
President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to relieve Sugrobov of his duties at the Interior Ministry on February 21.
According to the Kommersant newspaper, Sugrobov tendered his resignation after the Russian Investigative Committee and the Federal Security Service (FSB) searched offices of four of his subordinates. Bribe extortion and power abuse cases were launched against them.
Sugrobov, appointed to the post in summer 2011, had declared a war against corruption in Russia and fired 40 percent of his department’s old staff after they failed background checks. He is known for his role in several high-profile corruption cases, including the notorious Oboronservis case against senior Defense Ministry officials and fraud involving state purchases of medical equipment.
On May 15, Sugrobov was charged with organizing a criminal gang, power abuse and bribery.
Kolesnikov was arrested in February. No charges had been filed against him when he jumped out of a window during questioning at the Investigative Committee in June. Later the Basmanny District Court said no evidence was found of assisted suicide.
