MOSCOW, September 5 (RAPSI) – Customs officers in Rostov Region have seized a collection of antique coins, which a Ukrainian national attempted to smuggle into Russia, RIA Novosti reported on Friday.

A metal case was found in the personal belongings of a resident of the Donetsk Region, who planned to enter Russia in his car. The case contained a “polushka” coin (one quarter kopeck) dated 1735, a “denezhka” coin (half kopeck) dated 1854, one-, two-, three-, five-, 10-, 15- and 20-kopeck coins of the Russian Empire minted between 1870 and 1916, Soviet and RSFSR coins dated 1921-1931 and ranging from one kopeck to one ruble, German coins dated 1914-1939, and Polish and Bulgarian coins from the 1933-1944 period.

Other items prohibited for unauthorized entry were an Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class, medals For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and For the Capture of Konigsberg; jubilee medals “30 Years of the Soviet Army and Navy 1918-1948” and “1918-1958. 40th Anniversary of the Soviet Armed Forces,” as well as a Nazi military badge from Germany, 3- and 5-ruble banknotes of the Russian Empire printed in 1905-1909, and hinged icons.

“The said individual did not declare these items in writing or orally,” Rayan Farukshin said.

He added that the customs officers had confiscated all of these items and sent them for examination to Rostov-on-Don to establish their historical value.
