MOSCOW, September 8 (RAPSI) - Russia has officially notified Estonia of the arrest of Eston Kohver, an officer in the Estonian intelligence agency, Kapo, the press service of the Estonian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

According to the ministry, the Russian side has appointed a public defender for the Estonian citizen. It was also noted that Russian officials have not yet allowed Kohver to meet with an Estonian consul.

The Public Relations Center of the Federal Security Service reported last Friday that Kohver was detained in the Pskov Region with special equipment for discreet audio recording, a Taurus gun, ammunition and 5,000 euros in his possession. The Russian security service claims that “an undercover operation by the security police of the Estonian Ministry of Internal Affairs has been intercepted.”

The Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow issued a warrant for Kohver’s two-month arrest last Saturday.

The Estonian side maintains that Kohver was abducted by unknown persons last Friday morning in Estonia not far from the Luhama border crossing point by the Pskov Region and, threatened with weapons, was escorted to Russia. KaPo claims that their officer “was performing his duty to prevent trans-border crime.”
