MOSCOW, September 18 (RAPSI, Sariya Kiut) – Russian lawyers are proposing an amendment to the Criminal Code in the aftermath of the killing of a prominent lawyer Tatyana Akimtseva in central Moscow, Igor Trunov from Trunov, Aivar and Partners law firm told journalists on Thursday.

Article 295 of the Criminal Code on conduct endangering life of investigative and judicial personnel should be amended in order to cover lawyers, Trunov said.

Akimtseva was shot and killed on September 12.

The criminal case over her murder was opened under Article 105 of the Criminal Code which stipulates a punishment of up to 15 years in prison.

Article 295 of the Criminal Code stipulates life imprisonment for the convict.

Akimtseva represented the interests of victims in the high-profile case of the Orekhovo organized criminal group, pop singers Filipp Kirkorov and Kristina Orbakaite, figure skating star Evgeny Plushenko and producer Yana Rudkovskaya.

Akimtseva was also on the defense team of the former security chief of Russian oil giant Yukos, Alexei Pichugin, who was sentenced to 20 years in jail for murder and attempted murder.
