MOSCOW, September 26 (RAPSI) - Customs officers at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport have seized a batch of iPhone 6 as the smartphone goes on sale in Russia, RIA Novosti reported on Friday.

A 24-year-old woman from Belgium was arrested after allegedly trying to smuggle 19 Apple smartphones.

She faces a fine for failing to provide documents required for import customs clearance.

The amount of the fine will be calculated by court.

Last night, the sales of the new Apple product officially began in Russia. Russians bought almost 6,000 iPhones overnight. It is expected that in the first month, some 100,000 iPhones will be sold.

Those customers who could not wait to get the new device had already bought several thousand illegally imported phones for almost 100,000 rubles ($2,570) each. Hi-Tech Mail.Ru reports that at least 5,000 new iPhones were sold unofficially. In official stores, the iPhone 6 costs between 32,000 ($882) and 42,000 ($1,080) rubles; the iPhone 6 Plus costs between 37,000 ($951) to 47,000 ($1,208) rubles.
