MOSCOW, December 3 (RAPSI) – The suspects behind the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. in recent years were identified on Wednesday by the authorities as Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, both died in the shootout with the police, Reuters reported.

The shooting took place in San Bernardino, California and left 14 people dead and 17 wounded. According to Reuters, the couple, who were possibly married or engaged, opened fire at a holiday event in a local social services agency, Inland Regional Center. Their motive at this point is unknown, authorities do not rule out terrorism.

Farook, 28, was an employee of San Bernardino County. On Wednesday he attended a holiday party at the services agency, stormed out from the event and returned to kill the gathering people, local police chief said.

Farook was born in the U.S., while nationality of Malik, 27, remains unknown.
