MOSCOW, May 11 (RAPSI, Lyudmila Klenko) – Russia’s Prosecutor General Yury Chaika has ordered the agency’s territorial offices to verify the implementation of the instructions to bolster protection of endangered wild life President Vladimir Putin gave to state bodies, the Prosecutor General’s Office informs on its website on Thursday.

Following this order, the prosecutors of the constituents of the Russian Federation and special prosecutors of equal status have been directed to verify the enforcement of the legislation on protection and exploitation of wild life, the press-release says.

The prosecutors are to inspect the legality of activities carried out by organizations engaged in hunting, breeding, management, and demonstration of wild animals and birds. First of all, the inspections will be conducted with respect to zoos, oceanariums and dolphinariums, as well as fishing, educational, scientific, and cultural and educational establishments. A special attention is to be paid to the efficiency of activities carried out by the Federal Agency for Fishery (Rosrybolovstvo) and the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Monitoring Service (Rosselkhoznadzor).  

The statement says that certain prosecutors have already started to inspect the compliance with the legislative requirements by customs service and border guards entitled to fight illegal export of animals on the endangered species list and other wild life.
