MOSCOW, June 6 (RAPSI) – President Vladimir Putin has proposed the State Duma lawmakers to consider introducing oath-taking or other similar ceremony to the process of receiving Russian citizenship, the presidential press-service’s announcement reads on Tuesday.

The President believes that Russian MPs may want to think and adopt experience of other countries in this matter.

Putin also expressed his support for bills allowing authorities to cancel decisions regarding granting of citizenship to persons found guilty of terrorist crimes. He noted that the Constitutional Court should be consulted with regarding this problem.

Current legislation reads that there are requirements for persons without Russian citizenship seeking to receive it. One of these requirements is an obligation to uphold the Constitution and Russian legislation. Decision to grant citizenship may be revoked if an applicant used forged documents or provided false information. These facts are to be determined by court.

Under the bill, sentencing of a person for terrorism offences would constitute the grounds for reversal of decisions to grant citizenship.
