MOSCOW, September 13 (RAPSI) – Russia’s Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev has called for improvement of international police cooperation regarding fight against criminal use of cryptocurrencies and electronic payment systems, the ministry’s press-release reads on Wednesday.

Kolokoltsev took part in 37th conference of the ASEANAPOL in Singapore. He noted that cryptocurrencies and modern electronic payment systems are used for hiding and legalization of income obtained by criminal means as well as financing of terrorist activity.

As a side note, the minister also noted that in July Russia and ASEAN state-members launched new police cooperation initiative by allowing high-ranking law enforcement officers to hold consultations on fighting drugs. Kolokoltsev also expressed interest in joint operations against drug cartels.
