MOSCOW, September 25 (RAPSI) – The number of crimes committed in Russia in the first half of 2017 has dropped by 12.9% as compared to the same period of the last year, the report published on the Prosecutor General’s Office’s website reads.

According to prosecutors, 1,030,000 crimes were perpetrated in total during this period.

The rate of especially serious crimes increased by 1% while the number of serious, medium-gravity and minor crimes dropped by 11.1%, 12.6% and 15.2% respectively, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.

In the first six months of 2017, there was a raise in the amount of extremist crimes (by 2.2%), drug crimes (by 2.1%), and ammunition trafficking (by 3.6%).

Most of crimes were committed in Moscow (71,900) and the Moscow region (43,700). The Krasnodar region is ranked third in amount of crimes committed from January to June 2017 (33,500).  The Chelyabinsk, Rostov, Tyumen, Kemerovo regions, Bashkiria and the Republic of Tatarstan are inside the top ten as well.
