MOSCOW, March 21 (RAPSI) – The number of female prisons in Russia has increased by a third over the last 10 years, the statement published on the Public Chamber’s website reads.

Currently, 40,000 women are serving their sentences in 68 prisons. Moreover, 10,000 women are in detention centers, the statement reads.

According to the Public Chamber, 29 female penal colonies out of a total of 68 are intended for repeatedly convicted women.
