MOSCOW, May 30 (RAPSI) – The number of minors convicted and sentenced to prison for committing serious and very serious crimes has decreased, Russia’s Human Rights Commissioner Tatiana Moskalkova has said.

On Wednesday, Moskalkova presented the annual report on her work in 2017 to the Federation Council, the upper house of Russian parliament.

According to the ombudsman, 1,300 minors are currently in juvenile correctional facilities. There is a policy in places of confinement giving under age children a chance for socialization; and many of convicted do not commit crimes after release, she said. The work in this field is in progress, these are pilot projects, Moskalkova added.
