MOSCOW, September 19 (RAPSI) – Officers of Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) committed over 430 corruption-related crimes in 2017, a member of the Federation Council Lyudmila Bokova said during a meeting the Presidential Council for Human Rights on Wednesday.

According to Bokova, 431 crimes were detected, 120 penitentiary officials were charged with corruption, and 57 persons were convicted. 

The Federation Council member also said that prosecutors conducted 51,000 inspections last year and revealed 118,000 violations in the penitentiary system; 38,000 officials were subject to disciplinary actions. Moreover, 1,600 officials incurred administrative punishment for violations.
