MOSCOW, November 1 (RAPSI) – The quality of preliminary investigation in Russia has dropped sharply recently, the spokesperson of the Prosecutor General’s Office Alexander Kurennoy has stated.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the number of cases returned by prosecutors to the Interior Ministry’s offices for further investigation and reclassification of indictment increased by 8.3%. The number of cases returned to investigators increased by 11.5%, showcasing decline in the quality of preliminary investigation and lack of oversight.

Moreover, the number of the Interior Ministry’s officials found guilty of disciplinary violations increased by 20%. The same number for the Investigative Committee decreased by 8.3% but the number of violations overall increased by 2%.

The number of provisions issued by prosecutors increased by 5.4%
