MOSCOW, June 3 (RAPSI) – Chair of the Russian Civic Chamber’s humanitarian cooperation commission Yelena Sutormina has turned to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) over the toppling of the bust of Marshal Georgy Zhukov in Ukraine, according to the Chamber’s press service.

On Sunday, Ukrainian nationalists tore down the bust of Soviet military hero Marshal Zhukov in Kharkiv. The city’s mayor said that the statue would be reconstructed on a donation basis.

The Civic Chamber’s member has called OSCE to draw attention to this “glaring fact”, the statement reads.

Moreover, Sutormina has urged Ukrainian authorities to publicly condemn vandals and bring them to responsibility.

According to the public member, Zhukov is a hero not only for Russia and Ukraine but for the whole world. Nationalist ideas are always destructive, she stated.

Zhukov led the Red Army in the final assault on Berlin in the Second World War.
