As of this year, members of parliament from both houses and regional legislators must submit income information to parliamentary commissions. Reports must contain information about officials' income and assets – as well as those of their family. However, it is clear that such measures of control will be useless if for no other reason than because the controllers and the controlled are the same people.

Media have dubbed Russian citizen Viktor Bout an arms baron. He is now in jail in New York without any hope for an acquittal. His motions have been denied and the court will hand down his sentence on March 12. Prime Minister and presidential candidate Vladimir Putin in his election platform proposed streaming court hearings over the Internet and publishing their transcripts. He also pointed out the need to develop a single and accessible precedent base of judicial decisions for the trial court system. Similar base is used by the commercial courts.
Lawyers undecided on need for business commissioner

Russia will have a commissioner to protect the rights of all businessmen – not only foreign investors, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said. However, despite its supposed aim is to protect private capital, the initiative could produce side effects.
