MOSCOW, February 5 (RAPSI) – Russian government may introduce new taxation for food products that include high percentage of fat and sugar or specific taxes for palm oil, sugar, fizzy water, chips, Vedomosti newspaper reported on Friday.

Currently excise duties apply to alcohol, tobacco products, auto and aero fuels, cars and high-grade motorcycles. Palm oil may be the first product to be included in an excise duties list; new tax may be introduced on July 1. Palm oil is used as surrogate for animal fat and as oil for fryers.

Extended excise list may include electronic cigarettes as well.

Russian government was assigned with development of extended excise duties list on January 18. According to the newspaper’s sources, rise in price for food products containing harmful elements will automatically lower their consumption by general population.
