ASTANA, May 11 - RAPSI. The jury will consider a criminal case against former Kazakh Health Minister Doskaliev who has been charged with corruption, the defense counsel said.

The court instituted criminal proceedings against the former minister last September.

According to the investigation, Doskaliev, who previously ran the medical academy, entered into an illegal contract with a private construction company which stipulated building residential homes on a land plot owned by the academy.

The company later sold the apartments to private individuals at the market price, although the space was intended for teaching staff.

The minister received two apartments and a cottage as illegal gratification.

Doskaliev was immediately hospitalized after the questioning.

Doctors reported his poor health for several days. However, the court issued an arrest warrant after the financial police accused Doskaliev of malingering. His detention was repeatedly prolonged despite the defense’s claims about the former official’s poor health.
