MOSCOW, June 19 (RAPSI) - The Ulyanovsk Regional Court has sentenced a former judge of the Moscow Region's Shchyolkovsky District Court to 5.5 years in a colony settlement for killing two people in a drunk-driving accident, the injured party's attorney Alexei Glukhov told RAPSI.
The investigation revealed that on January 22, 2011, Valery Sas, who was driving his Toyota while intoxicated along a bridge over the Volga River in Ulyanovsk at 106 km/h, crossed into the passing lane and collided into a VAZ car. The driver and the passenger were killed on the spot, and another passenger was seriously injured.
During the hearings earlier, the prosecuting official asked the court to sentence Sas to 8.5 years in a general regime penal colony, while the injured party's attorney requested a nine-year sentence.
In his last statement, he pleaded innocent, claiming that his guilt had not been proved. He also asked the court to act in accordance with the law and its conscience when delivering the sentence, as he has an under-aged daughter.
