BISHKEK, July 1 (RAPSI) - The Interior Ministry of Kyrgyzstan has halted the activities of a group that promoted extremist religious ideas on social networks, the ministry's press office reported on Monday.
"The members of this group created video clips dubbed in Kyrgyz and posted them on a number of websites, including on .kg domains," the statement says. "Most of these clips were created using the websites of extremist organizations and materials by leaders of international extremist and terrorist organizations."
The members of the group regularly received extremist materials from Hizb ut-Tahrir, an international pan-Islamic political organization which is banned in Kyrgyzstan.
"A number of computer devices with special programs for editing videotapes, memory sticks, various booklets and DVDs containing materials from extremist and terrorist organizations were confiscated during searches conducted at the apartments of the suspects who have been exposed and detained," the Interior Ministry said.
The group used their acquaintances in the local media to conduct its subversive activities in Osh, a major city in southern Kyrgyzstan. According to ministry operatives, journalists "provided all-round assistance to the group in their preparations and creation of extremist religious video clips."
Moreover, several official websites of international extremist and terrorist organizations which have recently been active in the Kyrgyz cyberspace have been blocked on the Interior Ministry's initiative.
