MOSCOW, August 31 - RAPSI. The Moscow City Court validated the arrest of mixed martial arts champion Rasul Mirzayev on Wednesday. Mirzayev is being held for the involuntary manslaughter of 19-year-old student Ivan Agafonov, the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI) reports.

With its decision, the court held against Mirzayevs cassation appeal of a district court decision sanctioning his arrest.

Earlier, a law enforcement source told RAPSI, that on August 13, Mirzayev punched Agafonov near a downtown Moscow nightclub. The student was taken to a hospital, where he died several days later, after never regaining consciousness.

On Monday, August 22, the district court decided to release Mirzayev on 5 million ruble ($179,000) bail, but the very next day the Moscow City Court overruled the decision, and remanded the case for another bail hearing. At the second bail hearing, a Moscow district court sanctioned Mirzayevs arrest on August 24.
