ST. PETERSBURG, November 8 - RAPSI. A commercial court ordered to recover $13.46 million in penalties from Baltiysky Zavod for Rosmorport for missing deadlines to construct the Moscow and St. Petersburg icebreakers, the court materials read.
Baltiysky Zavod is part of the United Industrial Corporation owned by Senator Sergey Pugachyov. The factory builds icebreakers and military vessels. It manufactures a range of engineering products and energy equipment and supplies nonferrous and core-mold castings.
Rosmorport and Baltiysky Zavod concluded a contract to build the icebreakers in October 2004. According to the contract, "Moscow" was set to be transferred to the customer no later than on May 31, 2008, and "St. Petersburg" was scheduled for transfer no later than September 30, 2008. "Moscow" cost $75.32 million and "St. Petersburg" ran $78.59 million.
Rosmorport's lawsuit is the largest claim against Baltiysky Zavod among all those examined by the St. Petersburg Commercial Court. The Avrora concern seeks to recover 278.39 million rubles ($9.11million), Armalit-1 seeks $3.73 million in debts, and SOGAZ seeks to recover 51 million rubles ($1.67 million) in unpaid insurance payments.
