The Magistrates Court in Moscow fined VOICE 30,000 rubles ($1,000) on December 2 for breaking the election law.

Kolbasin said that VOICE will challenge the judgment.

The prosecutor said during the hearing that VOICE published election-related information on the day of silence ahead of the State Duma election, which is against the law.

The magistrate said "the guilt of the association is well proved."

VOICE is a Russian civilian organization established in 2000 to protect the electoral rights of citizens and to foster civil society. The organization presently covers 40 Russian regions.
