ROSTOV-ON-DON, February 8 - RAPSI. The Supreme Commercial Court upheld the decisions of lower courts and the antimonopoly service declaring Russian Railways in breach of the statutory pricing procedure, the service reported on Tuesday.

Russian Railways's subsidiary Don-Prigorod, engaged in commuter transportation across the Rostov Region, applied to the watchdog for explanations regarding the regulation of some of Russian Railways' tariffs.

Having considered the application, the service discovered that Russian Railways independently set prices for providing railway infrastructure for general use.

However, the tariffs on such services are to be regulated by the state as the services are rendered by natural monopolies.

The antimonopoly watchdog opened a case for breach of competition law. Russian Railways challenged the decision.

"The Supreme Commercial Court has held in favor of the previous court judgments and the service's order," reads the report. Additionally, Russian Railways has been fined 1.6 million rubles ($53,000).

The fine has also been contested.
