KRASNOYARSK, March 23 - RAPSI. The Krasnoyarsk Territory Commercial Court has held for ChEK.SU-VK's lawsuit against the local authorities after it was not allowed to build a ferroalloy plant worth over $747.62 million.
The district administration's legal act refusing to issue a construction permit to the company was invalidated. The parties have 10 days to appeal the decision.
On January 10, the commercial court registered ChEK.SU-VK's lawsuit against the Yemelyanovsky district administration. The district is considered a suburb of Krasnoyarsk.
The plant was to be constructed there. ChEK.SU-VK was to implement the project.
The local authorities denied the permit on October 11, arguing that the documents submitted by the company contradict effective environmental impact regulations.
Krasnoyarsk residents held several large protests last autumn against the plant construction. They feared the new facility could worsen the environmental conditions. The protesters collected over 150,000 signatures against the construction. The regional authorities finally decided to suspend the project and to hold public consultations in February 2012.
The ChEK.SU-VK mining and metallurgical company is located in the Kemerovo Region. It explores the Usinskoye manganese field. The field is considered to be one of the largest in Russia, with proven reserves of 98.5 million metric tons.
