DUBAI, March 26 - RAPSI. Three Russians detained in Dubai on suspicion of counterfeiting U.S. dollars are awaiting a court judgment, RIA Novosti reported on Monday.
They have been released from custody under the Russian Consulate General's guarantee.
Olga Filina, Maria Aristova and Olga Demianenko were detained at the Dubai International Airport on their way back to Russia on March 18. They are suspected of counterfeiting, storing and carrying counterfeit dollars.
The young women came to Dubai for leisure. One of them celebrated her birthday and her girlfriends gave her as a gift souvenir dollars earlier bought in Russia.
The gift was discovered by a chambermaid who was cleaning the hotel room after their checkout. The hotel manager called the police.
The dollar bills were sent to the U.S. Central Bank for expert appraisal.
"An international financial center is located in Dubai, therefore, such tricks with dollars are a risky business here. Everybody who would like to visit Emirates should know this," Russian Consul General Gocha Buachidze said.
