KIEV, April 10 - RAPSI. The sentence in the case of former acting Ukrainian Defense Minister Valery Ivashchenko will be announced on April 12.
Ivashchenko was the acting Ukrainian Defense Minister from June 2009 to March 2010.
He was arrested in August 2010. The Prosecutor General's Office accused him of illegally selling Feodosia Ship and Mechanical Plant's property. The state losses are estimated at $8.8 million.
The prosecution requests to sentence him to six years in jail.
Ivashchenko often complains about his health, during the process he required urgent medical assistance on several occasions.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution in January expressing its concern over the prosecution of Ivashchenko, as well as former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former Interior Minister Yuri Lutsenko. The authorities fully deny the political bias in the trials.
