IRKUTSK, MAY 11- RAPSI. A commercial court has recovered $1.3 million from the Baikalsk Pulp and Paper Mill under a lawsuit filed by the Federal Service for the Supervision of Natural Resources.
The fine amount is a debt under payment for negatively impacting the environment in 2009-2011. The funds will be allocated to budgets on various levels.
The court said the service's claims against the mill were satisfied. The claims amounted to 39.4 million rubles ($1.3 million). The mill said it will dispute the commercial court's decision in the appeals instance.
The watchdog has also filed another lawsuit to recover 35.1 million rubles for damaging Lake Baikal. The lawsuit is pending consideration at the Irkutsk Regional Commercial Court.
The case details have not been specified. The hearing will take place on May 24.
This is not the first time the watchdog has been involved in a legal dispute with the mill. A year ago, the agency took the mill to court, claiming that it had committed several violations against the law on protecting Lake Baikal, a government ruling and maritime law.
During the investigation, the watchdog found that the level of pollutants discharged into the lake from the mill in 2010 exceeded permissible levels.
The court obligated the mill to pay an 11.9 million ruble ($403,200) fine.
