BRUSSELS, May 24 - RAPSI. The European Parliament has called on the Ukrainian authorities to guarantee impartiality and transparency while considering former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's appeal and to release all prisoners convicted on political grounds, according to the assembly's resolution adopted at a plenary session in Strasbourg on Thursday.
The European Parliament has called for the immediate release of all individuals convicted on political grounds - and particularly the heads of the opposition.
The resolution condemns the use of force against Tymoshenko in jail and urges the authorities to establish an independent international legal commission that will report on possible violations of rights and fundamental freedoms during trials against her and government members who worked during her term.
The resolution also calls for ensuring that the process meets European legal standards.
