ST.-PETERSBURG, June 5 - RAPSI. The Severodvinsk court will hear a criminal case regarding the unlicensed repair of Admiral Gorshkov aviation cruiser.
The Arkhangelsk prosecutor has approved an indictment against Severny Region CEO Yury Chekmaryov.
"Chekmaryov's company, which has no license for the maintenance of military equipment, has been found to have undertaken repair works in December 2009 on the Admiral Gorshkov aviation cruiser, according to a contract signed with Sevmash. It received over seven million rubles ($206,000) in revenue from the work," claim reports.
Chekmaryov has been charged with "unlawful business operations" which carry a maximum punishment of five years in prison.
The maintenance work was carried out in accordance with a government contract between the Indian Defense Ministry and Rosoboronexport. The cruiser was scheduled to be tested at sea in early June. Sevmash planned to deliver the cruiser to India in December this year.
