MOSCOW, July 3 - RAPSI. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) satisfied former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yury Lutsenko's complaint against his arrest and detention during his case's investigation, the court reported on its website on Tuesday.
Lutsenko claimed that the authorities' conduct is a violation of his right to freedom and privacy.
The ECHR has accepted his arguments and eased his complaint by collecting for him 15,000 euro in moral damages.
Lutsenko was arrested in late 2010. The Prosecutor General's Office charged him with stealing government property and abuse of power. Pechersky District Court in Kiev declared him guilty and sentenced him to four years in jail on February 27.
Ukraine's representative in Strasbourg Valeria Lutkoskaya explained that his arrest aimed to bar witnesses from possibly exerting pressure on Lutsenko, while his attorneys argued that it sought to besmirch him as a politician and breached many legal standards.
