ST.-PETERSBURG, July 13 - RAPSI. The police officers who drew up inaccurate reports on the conduct of journalists detained during an unauthorized rally on Sunday have been disciplined, the Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.
The reports will have no legal effects for the journalists.
The police detained ITAR-TASS information agency correspondent Ivan Skirtach and RBC Daily correspondent Sergei Kovalchenko in St. Petersburg on Sunday. They were accused of resisting law enforcement officers, although the detainees said they had come to the rally on assignment from their agencies. Local Interior Ministry division head Sergei Umnov ordered an inspection, which uncovered that the officers who made the reports paid "insufficient professional attention" to the underlying circumstances.
"The officers have been disciplined," a police source said.
The results of the inspection have been sent to the magistrate's court, which has already received the journalists' cases.
