MOSCOW, July 17 - RAPSI. The Consumer Rights Protection Society referred to the Supreme Court on Tuesday with an appeal to invalidate the provisions of the Transport Ministry's aviation regulations, pursuant to which an airline may refuse to carry a passenger in a wheelchair, the society told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com) on Tuesday.
The society's appeal reads that such standards contradict a number of federal regulations and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and groundlessly limit the rights of citizens who need special support from the state.
"If the Supreme Court upholds the claims, Russian individuals with disabilities will be granted the unrestricted opportunity to use airline services, as is the case in other countries, and airlines will be forced to provide all the necessary conditions for their comfort during flights," the society believes.
