MOSCOW, August 21 - RAPSI. The Mayor of Moscow's office has denied opposition leader and writer Eduard Limonov's request to hold a rally in support of Article 31 of the Constitution in central Moscow on August 31, city spokesman Alexei Mayorov told RIA Novosti Tuesday.
The opposition traditionally holds rallies in Moscow on the thirty-first of the month. Limonov said he planned to hold a rally on August 31.
On Tuesday, the authorities met with the opposition to discuss the issue.
"Today, we turned down the application," Mayorov said. He explained that the organizers have already received two administrative penalties for improperly holding rallies, and by law permission was denied. However, Mayorov said a rally may be held in the future once an agreement is reached.
