MOSCOW, September 24 - RAPSI. The Tverskoy District Court in Moscow will hear a complaint to recognize as extremist the film, "Innocence of Muslims," on October 1.
Earlier, the court scheduled the session for October 17. However, the court has since decided to hear the case earlier, according to its press secretary.
When a trailer for the low-budget film, which denigrates the Muslim Prophet Mohamed, was aired on Egyptian television earlier this month a wave of protests broke out throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
The strongest protests have been held in Egypt and Yemen, although rallies have also been held in Sudan, Tunisia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. In the Libyan city of Benghazi, heavily armed radical protesters stormed the U.S. Consulate and killed four, including US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has appealed to the court to declare the film extremist. The federal communications agency has called on Internet operators to block access to the film even before the court passes its judgment.
