MOSCOW, October 10 - RAPSI. Russian flight attendant Marina Talashkova, who was arrested in Canada at the United States' request on suspicion of involvement in a multimillion-dollar internet scam, will remain behind bars, Igor Kiykov from the Russian consulate-general in Toronto told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com).

Earlier, her defense lawyer Tyler Hodgson told RAPSI of his intention to file a motion to have her released on bail until her extradition request is heard.

According to Kiykov, the motion was considered, but the court set extremely tough requirements and the defense were not able to meet bail.

"The requirements were rather strict: she had to be under round-the-clock supervision, stay in specially equipped housing and wear an electronic bracelet. In addition, the bailsman had to be a Canadian citizen and the bail had to be pledged by the bailsman's property," Kiykov said.

Talashkova, 24, was arrested in mid-January. In April, a Toronto court extended her arrest on charges of complicity in fraud, while the United States asked for her extradition.

The case materials are in a Nevada court and the U.S. authorities have filed an extradition request.

The U.S. Attorneys Office maintains that Talashkova and five other suspects opened bank accounts using fake documents and withdrew funds transferred to the accounts. Her attorney claims that the prosecution has failed to produce compelling evidence of her involvement in the crime.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich has stated that Russia insists on Talashkovas earliest release and allowing her to return home. He added that Russia regards the grounds for her arrest as far-fetched.
