WASHINGTON, October 25 - RAPSI. An automobile accident turned into an international incident Thursday morning when a driver fleeing from police scaled the fence of the Russian embassy in Washington.

After crashing his car shortly after midnight in northwestern Washington, the driver fled the scene of the accident as police approached.

During the ensuing chase, the man climbed over the fence of the nearby Russian embassy on Wisconsin Avenue to elude the pursuing officers, a Russian embassy spokesman said.

Agents from the US Secret Service arrived on the scene, and the security officers at the Russian embassy handed the man over to American authorities after about 90 minutes of consultations, NBC News reported.

Police identified the man as 34-year-old Michael Worley. He has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash, and driving while intoxicated.
