MOSCOW, October 31 - RAPSI. A criminal investigation probing large-scale fraud allegations against businessman Viktor Baturin has wrapped, his attorney Igor Shabanov told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com) on Wednesday.
"Next week, my defendant and I plan to finish studying the case materials, after which they will be submitted to the prosecutor's office for the indictment's approval," Shabanov said.
Baturin is the older brother of businesswoman Yelena Baturina, the wife of former Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and Russia's richest woman. Forbes ranked her the world's third wealthiest woman in 2010 with a $2.9 billion fortune. The two siblings are the co-founders of Inteco, a large development firm.
Baturin has been charged with attempted fraud involving Inteco promissory notes. He was earlier charged with the attempted embezzlement of 10.8 million rubles ($345,390).
Baturin's case carries other charges involving the attempted theft of over 5.6 billion rubles ($179 million).
He was arrested at Inteco's office on November 28 after arriving to cash a counterfeit 10.8 million ruble ($345,390) promissory note.
Baturin, who denies any wrongdoing, faces up to 10 years in prison.
