MOSCOW, November 1 - RAPSI. Supreme Commercial Court judge Dmitry Dedov is now the new authorized Russian judge in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), as Anatoly Kovler's tenure has expired.
Dedov was elected the ECHR judge on October 3. He was voted in by an overwhelming majority of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
The ECHR judges are elected by PACE members from candidates proposed by each country which ratified the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
Dedov will be representing Russia at the ECHR for the next nine years. Another candidate will then be elected for the post; according to Article 23 of the convention, ECHR judges cannot be re-elected.
Dmitry Dedov graduated from the Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1991 and in 1994 he was awarded his P.h.D. In 2005 he started working at the Supreme Commercial Court and was appointed a Supreme Commercial Court judge in 2008. He has over 15 years legal experience.
