MOSCOW, January 14 - RAPSI, Diana Gutsul. Leonid Razvozzhayev's attorney has appealed the Investigative Committee's refusal to open a criminal case over claims of the oppositionist's kidnapping, attorney Dmitry Agranovsky told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com).
"I have just filed an appeal with the Prosecutor General's Office. When the refusal was issued, they did not have a lot of the material, including the witnesses' testimony of the event. We believe that we have convincing evidence and that there are no grounds to mistrust it," Agranovsky said.
Razvozzhayev, along with other Russian oppositionists, is involved in the case on organizing mass riots which was initiated after the "Anatomy of Protest 2" film was shown on NTV. The filmmakers claimed that the opposition was preparing a coup financed from abroad.
In addition, cases against Razvozzhayev were opened over robbery and his illegal crossing of the Russian-Ukrainian border.
Agranovsky recently reported that Razvozzhayev consented to the closure of the robbery case due to the expiration of statute of limitations. This is a non-rehabilitating circumstance and therefore Razvozzhayev no longer has the right to seek compensation for illegal prosecution and groundless detention.
